Pavan is one of a collection of pieces which draw on material written for David Bintleyʼs ballet of Shakespeareʼs The Tempest.


It appears in the ballet as a solo for the Goddess Iris. She represents air and sky, birdsong, zephyrs and gentle rain.


It was commissioned by sound for the Aberdeen Harp Book with the support of soundbytes investor Lane Wealth Management, and first performed by Ruth Wall as part of the Sound Festival, in October 2016.


Composed for clarsach. May also be performed on pedal or lever harps. Commissioned by Sound Festival. First performed by Ruth Wall at Sound Festival 2016.
